Electrical Engineer

The Embedded Systems Engineer will support the hardware and software of existing products as well as specification development of new opto-electrical products. The candidate will work with third party developers and suppliers representing the company in all matters pertaining to the development of new designs and prototypes. 


  • Work with Sales, Optical & Mechanical Engineers to develop specifications for new product designs. 

  • Determine optimal system trade-offs to balance efficiency, cost and flexibility. 

  • Develop, maintain and improve algorithms and firmware for embedded systems. 

  • Support prototype product development and work with Engineers to confirm operation to specification. 

  • Develop and support hardware/ firmware version control, continuous integration and firmware release processes and procedures. 

  • Work with Test Engineering on Design for Testability. 

  • Work with outside consultants, suppliers and contract manufacturers to identify components and tools. 

  • Manage, Maintain, and Support web based optical Programs and Engineering software (Autodesk) 

  • Occasional travel and passport is required. 

Required Knowledge/Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science or related degree

  • Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to organize complex tasks 

  • Strong communication skills and works effectively in a dynamic team environment 

  • Experience designing and developing embedded systems 

  • Working knowledge of mixed-signal circuits and systems. 

Preferred Knowledge/Skills

  • Understanding of GD&T 

  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) 

  • Technical writing skills 

  • Familiarity with software and computer programming 

  • Experience with project scheduling software  

  • Project management experience 

  • Conduct accurate cost benefit analysis in order to invest where most the value is added 

  • Presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate professionally with all levels of management  

  • Show a customer solution focus, listening to customers and making decisions with their current and future needs in mind 

  • Easily build relationships with others, gaining trust and support, finding common ground and using team-based approaches to solve problems and achieve goals 

  • Exhibit enthusiasm & knowledge, leveraging available resources to seek out the best quality solutions that we are proud of and meet our high standards

Work Environment


  • Work involves continuous interaction with co-workers in fast-paced environment 

  • Work includes sitting for prolonged periods, along with repetitive hand and arm movements 

  • Work requires frequent use of the telephone and computer 

  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 1 – 5 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds occasionally 

This position reports to the Engineering Manager.
